North Wilkesboro Speedway abrió sus puertas al público por primera vez en 1947, casi un año antes de que se fundara NASCAR, . Para los que no estéis al tanto, NASCAR es probablemente la competición de coches que más pasión y adrenalina libera entre su público. En España y Latinoamerica lo cierto es que no tiene mucha acogida, pero en Estados Unidos es una de las competiciones que más fans reúne a lo largo y ancho del país.
El North Wilkesboro Speedway era capaz de acoger hasta a 40.000 personas y durante más de 50 años fue escenario de numerosos éxitos en la historia del automovilismo. A pesar de todo, el 9 de mayo de 2011 cerró sus puertas de forma indefinida.
Desde su inauguración han pasado muchos años, muchas carreras y muchos triunfos, hoy, cinco años después de haber sido abandonado, el circuito histórico es solo un montón de palos oxidados, sillas rotas y asfaltos agrietados.
Seph Lawless es un fotógrafo apasionado por este tipo de lugares, es por ello que no a dudado en viajar hasta el North Wilkesboro Speedway para fotografiarlo e intentar preservar el ambiente glorioso que en su día reinaba en el circuito.
Este circuito una vez que se llenó de miles de personas, ahora el ambiente es extrañamente silencioso y completamente abandonado. Es apocalíptico.
Apocalíptico no sé, pero bonito sí que es. Y es que ese ambiente desolador consigue concienciarnos de lo insignificantes que somos ante la naturaleza. Por mucho que construyamos, la naturaleza volverá a apoderarse de lo que en su día fue suyo, a paso lento pero firme acaba con todo lo artificial.
